Rendered Image is black

I'm trying to get a high quality Arch D print of the overall site. I understand the best way to produce this is to use "Rendered Image..." but when I do this I get an image with black objects.

What's causing these objects to be black?

Also is there anyway to turn off/down the shadows?

I've atatched an example. Any help or advice is much appriecated. Thanks!

In the Materials tab of the Presenter window a 'ByLayer' material has been created, just delete this material.

This can happen with some DWG's and has been reported to development for resolution in the future.
