Re: rcs transforms not holding on certain scans in the rcp

so we have 15 rcs scans in this rcp file.  everything is registered and looks fine to me in navis and recap.

I send the whole project out, and the guy who opens it, has the last two scans 14 and 15 in the wrong place.

I am able to recreate it on my end only by appending each rcs individually into navis, 14 and 15 are off.

when i append in the rcp, as he does to navis, it looks fine, his has 14 and 15 off.

all looks good to both people in autocad 2015 when bringing in the rcp.

he is on an older version of recap and cant open the project in recap.

what gives?

Hi Jason,

We'll have to redirect the thread with the Navisworks Team.

I hope they'll locate the error easily.

If there is no solution you can export the scans from ReCap as unified RCS file and bring it into Navis

Hi Jason,

The latest ReCap version might fix this issue regarding the scans in ReCap itself.

http://www.autodesk.com/products/recap/free-trial

All the features are free except the registration capabilities.

More details about the versions can be found in this page.

Regards,

Mitko

Thank you for your post.  In this case the key component is the versioning of the software’s.  As we see in Navisworks (and other software’s), if the versions do not match there can be communication breakdowns.  You mentioned this other office is on a different version of the Recap software than you.  You also mention that the issue is isolated to this user’s environment.  Is there a way for this end user to upgrade to the same version as you?  If so, I would suggest he/she attempt this first and then open those same files in the sequence mentioned above.

If this still does not work, Please grab screen shots of the versions of each and post to this forum.  This can then be reviewed by the Recap team to see if there is anything that may be contributing to this communication breakdown within the software’s and different offices.

I Hope this helps, and please keep us posted within the community.

i believe i have also said that if i add the rcs files individually in navis, scan 14 and 15 are off.  the rcp that references these works fine.  this is all in house.

explain that please

Thank you for your post.  In this case if you can upload a screen shot of your version of NW and Recap, along with your files for testing, I would be happy to test for you. Please keep us posted.  Thank you.

Hi Jason,

This is a known limitation.  It is highly recommended to work only with the RCP file, and not the RCS scan files directly.

The RCP file always contains the most-recent registration info for the scans in the project.  For legacy reasons, the RCS file also contains registration info - but this info is only current as of the time the RCS file was created ('indexing' in ReCap).  The mismatch you describe can happen when the registration for a scan is changed after it is first indexed.  In this case, the RCP will hold the updated info, but the RCS will still contain the old.

To your colleague's issue - this sounds like he's attaching the RCS individually.  If he's not, there could be a path issue in the project file.  He could try opening & saving the project in ReCap.  This will update the relative paths to match his machine.

Hope this helps,

Ryan

yes he is using the rcp directly and not the individual rcs files.

i have not tried to have him open the rcp in recap first.  I will try that

thanks
