RAC 2012 Materials & NWM 2012..........

Havebn't been able to pin down an answer regarding RAC 2012 Materials into NWM 2012 when exporting.  Is NWM still not supporting them?

Hi mike,

Materials from Revit are not currently supported through the Navisworks 2012 Exporter for Revit.  If you wish to automatically bring across your materials from Revit into Navisworks, you are able to export to an FBX file from Revit (Application Button > Export > FBX).  When you open the FBX file on its own in Navisworks, the graphics system will automatically be set to Autodesk (OGS) in Navisworks, and you should see your Revit materials applied. However, as it is using a different graphics system, you are unable to use Navisworks’ own materials and lights from Presenter.

If you’d like to have your materials from Revit applied to your NWC files, you are able to manually create your own materials in Presenter using the Revit material images found under C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\Materials\Textures.

For more information on creating materials using your own image files, you can find this in the Navisworks Help under:

Create Photorealistic Visualizations > Use Presenter Materials > Edit Presenter Materials

I recommend logging an enhancement request for support for Revit materials in the exporter on the customer feedback page:

Hi mike,

I also wanted to note that when exporting to an FBX file from Revit, Autodesk consistent materials will be available through the Autodesk graphics system in Navisworks for real-time navigation. However, as these materials are not Navisworks Presenter materials, they will not be used when creating photorealistic renderings.  Therefore, surfaces will appear grey when rendering through Presenter.

Best regards,

Hello,

I am having the same issue with bringing in NWC files exported from Revit, so I tried the approach of exporting Revit to an FBX file. The FBX file shows the textures correctly in Navisworks, but the file is in the incorrect location from the rest of my model. I have read online that other people are not having the same issues with exporting Revit to NWC. The textures are exporting just fine for them. If exporting to FBX is the way to go, thats fine, but the file is not in the correct location. Which is the best way to go from Revit to Navisworks, and be able to see the material textures that were applied?

Thank you,

Jason
