Perpective vs Orthographic - Viewpoint

We're using Navisworks Manage 2014, (with SP1 and Hotfix2), along with Revit MEP 2014.

We took pains to export .NWC files from an Orthographic view from Revit (now more difficult than with Revit 2013).

Now every clash is shown in Perspective view, which we NEVER use.  We always want all clashes to always show in Ortho view, every time we use Navisworks, always.  Forever.  Always.

We've tried Grouping clashes and changing the Viewpoint (doesn't work), looked into Options>Interface>Viewpoint Defaults (nothing), and selecting all clashes, then trying to change to Ortho (no luck).

I could hire an autodesk programmer to remotely access my computer and change the viewpoint of each of these 800+ clashes ONE AT A TIME, since they seem to have a lot of free time ... since they're not interested in fixing the software ....

My question:  How much should I plan to tip the autodesk programmer?  Should the tip be based on his/her age, or on his/her seniority at autodesk, measured in minutes?

Thank you for your post.  In this case does the issue still persist if you export to NWC from a different view, and/or ortho from within Revit?  Does this happen on all files?  Have you attempted exporting to NWC from a differing view within Revit?

I do apologize for any changes in the softw3wares releases that you have experienced in your typical workflow.  In addition to this post, I would also suggest submitting the feedback directly to the development team/product manager, via the link below.  This will go directly to the team for future consideration within updates, product releases, and features.

Hello,

I've just taken a quick look at this - the clash viewpoints are based on the Home view so that the default clash-generated viewpoint for a clash result is always consistent. If the model does not have a saved Home view then the default Home view is used and the default Home view has Perspective projection. This is the reason that all the clash viewpoints are coming through with the wrong projection for you.

A simple workaround is to explicitly save a Home view with Orthographic projection. To do that, set the view you want to be your home view with the appropriate projection mode, then right-click on the View Cube 'Home' icon and select the option to save it. After that your clash viewpoints should have the projection you want.

Hope that helps, Susan

Hello,

I find that Navisworks seems to be more consistent with Viewpoints if the Navisworks NWF 3D Home view is initially set to Orthographic BEFORE appending NWC's and running the Clash Detective.  We're working with BIM Track and this Orthographic view is very important.  The workflow seems to be to export NWC file(s) from an orthographic 3D View in Revit, Append NWC's in Navisworks, Run Clash Detective, Group Clashes / Update the Status per Clash, and then open BIM Track to 'Create Issues from Clashes.'

BIM Track Support: "As clashes are generally resolved in the authoring software (Revit, Tekla Structures, etc.) and since these software have limited support for perspective cameras, WE SUGGEST that you publish your clashes using an orthographic camera.  This will make it easier for other parties to locate the flagged issues."
