NWD 'embed textures' bug?

Hello,

I have applied textures to several objects in Navisworks using the navisworks presenter, but when publishing the file to NWD - with 'embed textures' box ticked - the textures won't show in Freedom (2011 or 2012). Upon loading the nwd in Freedom, multiple error messages show, saying that path/material can't be found.

In the help files (?) it says that a folder is to be created when publishing a nwd, having the same name but with an _ infront, containing the textures. But it's not.

Is there a fix to this problem?

Also, the brick texturing doesn't show nor get an error message, like Freedom doesn't even look for it..

Thanks for any help.

What unfortunately is happening here is that textures which would ordinarily be installed with the Simulate and Manage products are not installed with Freedom.

The quickest workaround would be in to install Simulate or Manage on the machine, it would not need to be licensed, you would just need to have access to the folders.

Potentially, although I haven't tested it, you may be able to copy the Presenter folder from the Manage or Simuate installation into the Freedom folder on your machine.

We have this logged with development and hope to have a fix in a future version.

The machine where I'm testing the nwd-file in Freedom has Manage installed (and licensed).

Copying the textures folder from Manage to Freedom gets rid of the error messages when opening the nwd in Freedom, but the textures still don't show.

I can fix the problem by bouncing the files around in other programs to get textures in, but thanks anyway.

My experience with Freedom and embedded images shows gradual loss of function now matching that described in this thread. My textures are not part of any installation files; they are road sign face images. They are .png files referenced by VRML files.

Freedom 2010 ignores the transparent status of the selected indexed colour, but otherwise correctly shows the image.

Freedom 2011 scrambles any image with transparency. Removing the transparent property gives the same result as 2010.

Freedom 2012 scrambles any image with transparency. But removing the transparency and saving as an embedded image causes repeated messages "Can't resolve external image - NwdName.nwd#imageName.png". And clicking "Ignore All" seems the same as "Ignore" - many clicks are needed. But the images ARE then visible.

Please find and fix. My client is installing Freedom 2012 across the project. My workaround will have to be NWD with external image files.

Workaround that I found was to copy the texture files into another directory (any directory - common directory if it’s to be shared) or C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Navisworks Freedom 2013\presenter. Then temporarily hide remove or whatever to deny access to the Presenter texture files in the Navisworks manage directory (C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Navisworks Manage 2013\presenter\lads\layla_data\textures). Open the nwd file in Navisworks manage and it will say that it can’t find the textures and it will give the opportunity to path to the new texture file directory that you have created. Locate and path the files, then re save the nwd file. When the file is opened again in Freedom it will look for the files at the saved path. The texture files will then open with the Freedom nwd file on any machine as long as they are placed in the same directory structure as they were saved in with the Navisworks manage.

Hi Lee

I have an issue related to this - and we need a fix because this seems to be a bug.

I have a multi discipline Navisworks model. Each discipline (Track, Road, Base map etc) has its own NWF file where I put on textures. I publish each NWF to a NWD embedding the textures.

I then have a coordination master NWF model where I attach each discipline NWD file.

On my computer and other computers in our company the textures comes out correct in the master model.

But for our client, who also uses Manager 2018, textures does not show - same models, same program, same settings.

How is this possible?
Textures are the same Autodesk Basis library so this is not the problem.
