We create search sets for things like "walls" and "ceilings". Lately, in both 2013 and 2014, those search sets have proven to be unreliable. In some cases, it doesn't run the search at all so that when you filter by the selection it still shows everything. In other cases it doesn't update the search to include new models or model elements.
I have the same issue, too. Once I update my dwfx files, my search sets still exist ,however,they are either freeze or remain unchanged. Therefore, I exported my search conditions. So every time I update my files, I update my search set related with the file updated by importing my search condition.
