Navisworks Manage Timestamp?

Anyone know of a function to show a timestamp or date on appended files? Basically I work for a general contractor doing clash detection with subcontractors files. 99% of the time when a sub has a clash they will claim "that they fixed it and that I don't have the latest file" (which is usually a lie). This causes me to breakdown the whole meeting and re-append the sub's file to show to them that indeed I have there latest file.

Again, Is there anyway / workaround to show the current date on a appended file??

Cheers

Adam

Welcome aboard.  🙂

I don't think there is a way to do this, short of *maybe* publishing with the extra information filled in and/or time-bombing the NWD.  We handle such things with work process rather than technology: any models, drawings, etc. that go to or from other companies are logged by the document control department.  When a question such as "Why don't you have the latest file?" comes up a quick search of the logs will show what they have and have not sent, when it was sent, and so on.

Thanks!

The work process you speak of is similar to what I do now. I'd just like to be able to show them on the spot. Maybe Autodesk could add this parmiter to the selection inspector?? Please!

Cheers.

I solved this by changing my process.  I put the date in front of every component model such as 140414 xxx - A1.nwc (today's date, project acronym, Architecture 1st Floor) and always use the same folder from which I aggregate/federate the models (i.e. the folder contains only the latest Federated NWF and NWC/IFC/DWG/etc Component models).  I only append each component model once - the first time it is used so that Navisworks maintains the clashes and the federated model always progresses AND every component model shows its date right by filename in the Tree.

The trick is to have an "Archive" folder and drag every OLD component model into the Archive folder only once you have a new one.  When you open Navisworks, it will complain that it can't find the OLD model at which time you browse to the NEW component model and hit OK.

That's it.  Now my secret's out.  I don't need to credit anyone else because I've never read/heard it from anyone else.

Also, if you create a copy of the NWF on occassion, it's actually possible to rewind your NWF back to a previous state.

If you find someone's post helpful, give it Kudos. If it answers your question, mark it as an answer.

Thanks for the feedback! I use a very similar workflow (if I have too). I just hate having to "re-link" the newly named files everytime a sub exports a new model. I guess I'm just venting more then having an actual complaint. My next project I'm hoping to impliment Autodesk Glue. This should solve my woes in the future (Crossing Fingers).

Again, Thanks for the feedback
