Navisworks 2015 Recap point cloud point size setting problem

Hello Everyone!

I am using ReCap preprocessed point clouds(.rcp) in Navisworks, but when I zoom in, it is hard to analyse the object(hard to share).

There is an option, like in recap, to give a size for the points, to make them more visible, not like a pixel. In global options/file readers/Recap/Scale interactive point size. THIS MUST BE THE ONE, but it is not working for me.

Does anybody have experiences with this?

Thank you!

Cheers, Laszlo

I have these settings like this:

Conversion mode: Voxels

Mas Interactive Points: 500000

Max Memopry (MB) : 0 (I think this means unlimited)

Point Cloud Density (%): 100

Scale Interactive Point Size: ON (I think this is the ony you need !)

Max Interactive Point Size:  8

Apply Lightning: ON

On Publish Embed Xrefs: Fast Access

And I find the results stunning, both the speed and the quality of viewing in 3D.

Hi Patrick! Thank you for the reply, but somehowe it does not work for me. I attached the pic from recap, and the pic from navis.

I believe this should be the setting, that you posted, so something else should be the problem here.

By changing the Max Interactive Point Size option, you can grow your poins sizes? (Mine are just pixels...)

Cheers,

Laszlo

Hi, changing the  Max Interactive Point Size doe snot change much here also.

But the first setting set to Voxels ?

Because that delivers me almost photo quality.

Perhaps you need to load more scan clouds at the same time

I see that you are using the 30day trial of Manage.

Which Service Pack do you have installed ? I have SP2 installed. Maybe that is the difference.

Yes, the settings are the same, as you set yours. Actually I tried every variation, without results. Points are still just pixels.

By the way, it is not a 30 day trial, it is NFR version. 🙂

I installed all three service pack, but nothing changed. After, I noticed something. When I append the RCP cloud, there are bigger points, as it should, but when I zoom in, they are decreasing to pixels...

I am out of ideas. Could make a print screen of your cloud, with zoomed in to a surface?

Thank you a lot!

Laszlo

In my RCP file, about 10 scan positions are loaded in ReCap.

And I attach the ReCap Project file in Simulate 2015.

while loading, i see sparce points builiding up (Cloud1.jpg, but after loading I get a final result like Cloud.jpg.

The Green items are already modeled in CAD, everything else is a cloud.

While walking aroind, everything gets pixelised temporarly, (Cloud2.jpg) but just enough to enable orientation while walking, and when you stop walking and wait, everything gets the final result again.

Placing the complete Recap project on your local SSD does speed up enorously.

How are your display settings ?

I have an nVidia Quadro K1100M and in Navisworks -> Options -> Interface -> Display -> Graphics System

Hardware Acceleration: ON

WPF Hardware Acceleration: ON

System: Autodesk

CPU Occlusion Culling: ON

GPU Occlusion Culling; OFF (no idea why this is off)

Graphics System -> Autodesk

Scren Space Ambient Occlusion: OFF

Shader Style: Basic

Use Unilimited lights: ON

Autodesk Materials: OFF, OFF, OFF ON, ON, Base Resolution 1024 and 512

MSAA Level 2x

Graphics System -> Drivers

Only Autodesk (Direct X 11) is selected. This is quite important, having more than on system selected can mess up performance.

Yeeeeaahhhh, that was it. Not exactly but, that was under the display settings, and not under pointcloud settings:

Navisworks -> Options -> Interface -> Display -> Primitives / Point size!

Thank you veeeery very much for showing me the way! I appreciate that you were managing my issue.

Have a nice day!

Cheers, Laszlo

My settings are
Point Size: 1
Line Size: 1
Snap Size: 1
and Enable Parametric Primitives is ON
What were yours ?

My settings were the same as your, all the global option settings, but somehow the points did not "grew" --->

So I changed this point size to 2:

Point Size: 2
Line Size: 1
Snap Size: 1
and Enable Parametric Primitives is ON

Okay, it fells like an override, but now the point-cloud are visible enough in closer zooms.

Thanks anyway!

Thank you guys! That helps a lot!

Why is the size for point clouds not under the file reader option?

just a guess: because it's a setting that afflects all points, regardless where they come from (Leica, Faro, Recap or even CAD points).
And this makes it possible to have a viewpoint with a dense cloud of points (point size =4) or a viewpoint with an almost transparent point cloud (point size = 1) if you are working with clouds and CAD models combined

I've been looking for this for years! Thank you!
