How to import an import an image

I have an image file that i am using as a site background for my model.  I want to bring this image into Navisworks so i can use Bluebeam to create a 3D PDF.  I have the imaged xref'd into my cad file but when append that cad file to Navisworks, the image just shows up as a solid grey entity.  Any ideas on how to show the contents of the image?

Thank you for your post.  In this case you could bring the DWG file (or export to NWC) into Navisworks without the image first.  Once in Navis, you could append the image file into the model.  For help with this I have included the direct link to the PDF document below (for 2011 but applicable in general workflow).  You will be able to add a image as a material to apply to a surface within Navisworks (essentially tricking the software into displaying the same image).  Steps for this begin on page5 of the below link.  Please let us know in the community if this helped.  Thank you and we look forward to your reply.

Regarding the Signage Link, notice that its for NW 2011 back in the good old days when it was possible to add pictures easily using presenter. Presenter is gone now 😞

Autodesk materials can be mapped with images but it is very tricky.

Use Revit for renderings requiring backgrounds.

I'd propose using a more industry-standard method of rendering without a background and adding it using compositing software.

I could do that for images but do you have any suggestions for animations? I have an 2 mile channel modeled in navisworks/autocad which I performed a fly by for a presentation. This would look so mush better if I could drop a Google Earth image in for a background.

A detailed, changing, site-specific background like a Google Earth street view is difficult to do in Navisworks, even with compositing (I've done some simple backgrounds, it just requires multiple passes or synchronized frames).  If you are referring to draping an aerial view onto a grade model, Infraworks would be the better option.
