When I'm in "Walk" mode and I turn on Gravity, the Collision option checks itself.
That means I can't walk through Walls (or Doors) anymore.
Is there any way I can have just Gravity turned on, but not Collision?
Its the same issue I have with some science fiction, where something allows a person to walk through walls: if you don't collide with walls, whats to stop you from falling through the floor?
Or Superman's X-Ray vision?
Where does it stop? How come he can look through the exterior wall of a building, but not the interior walls?
Or, if you want to go in another direction, how could you see through clothes, but not skin?
I suspected Gravity & Collision were related, but wouldn't it be nice to be able to distinguish between, say horizontal and other surfaces?
While walking, you can temporarily switch collision off (Gravity does switch off also, i believe) and when you are trough the wall, you can swith it on again.
At least, I could do that in Review 2009.
Hi dplumb,
Here are some hot-keys for collision detection:
T: Third Person
G: Gravity
😧 Collision Detection
C: Crouch
These hotkeys should speed things up if you are marking/unmarking checkboxes under Viewpoint > Motion Settings > Realism.
If gravity is off, when you hit G on the keyboard, you'll have gravity and collision on. Then you can hit D on the keyboard to toggle off collision detection.

Being able to ignore collision objects (by search set might be the best way to implement) *would* make a nice feature improvement. I'm not sure how much additional load that would impose on the software though. I think the overall-average users hardware is at a low point on the cycle, and it will be another year or two before that increases as companies do a dual-transition to new hardware along with Win7.
I started with Patrick and John's method of using hotkeys to turn Collision off, then walking through the Door & then turning it back on again, which works, but is still kind of clunky.
I ended up Selecting all Doors and Hiding them. Not perfect, but at least it let me run around the building.
Ignoring Collision by Search Set would probably be the best - most flexible option.
Revizto automatically lets you walk through doors, because it knows they are doors (Revit Category) Works awesome.
I don't know why they don't just add that into Navisworks, seems pretty simple and obvious.
Not everybody uses Revit, nor are their models structural/architectural in nature. Navisworks has a much broader scope of application.
True, but Navisworks knows if the incoming data is a Revit door, and this behavior could be added without taking away any functionality from any other imported data types.
Personally I'd like to see a hotkey that you can simply hold while walking to allow the avatar to 'ghost' through wall - like just hold CTRL while walking (assuming Collision is on) will allow you to pass through that wall.
Yeah, but what about objects which are not "doors" per se - safety gates, removable walls, and so on? What about those who don't use Revit, or those who are coordinating with others who are not using Revit e.g. via IFC?
That's why I would prefer a much more flexible solution which is not tied to a specific content type or definition.
