Fabrication CADmep elements not appearing inside Clash Detective?

Hi all,

I'm having an issue with a Fabrication CADmep (2014 or 2015) not showing up in my Navisworks (2014 or 2015) Manage Clash Detective tool.

I can append the model with no problem, and when I'm not in Clash Detective the model shows up as expected (all geometry shown as in the native file).

I have been running clash detection on this model for some time, so I have a number of issues which have been raised in my Clash Detective. This time when I brought in a new file sent to me by the MEP consultant, the elements which were shown as clashes before are simply not showing up.

As an example, if I had a pipe clashing with a ceiling (Arch vs MEP) inside CD I would see the ceiling, but the pipe does not show up - The 'Item 2' box is completely empty, as if there was no geometry there.

If I section the model down, and un-hide other I can see the pipe which was causing the initial clash is in fact still there, but for some reason Navisworks CD is not picking this up as an issue - It's as if there is nothing there at all.

Attached is an image displaying the problem.

If there is anyone who has an idea or any suggestions, please fire away, as I'm running out of ideas about what could be causing this issue.

Many thanks,

Ben

Additional info - If I re-run the tests, the elements from the Fab CADmep model appear, but the old issues which I have already raised do not get updated.

I obviously don't want to have to re-run all the tests and start from scratch, but at the moment it seems like my only option.

Thank you for your post.  In this case do you receive the same results if you export to NWC from within CADMEP products as opposed to DWG right into the Navisworks product?  Some of our users have seen more favorable results with the clash detection tools (especially in 2015 with the improvements made within the overall interface of NW).  There are still some nuances with the CADMEP tools but these can be navigated and communication restored with some mild manipulation.

Essentially the re-run of the test provides a jump and forces the communication but this is not ideal.  I do apologize for this extra step in performing your clash detection with these objects.

In regards to any development feedback for improvement with these tools, I would strongly urge you to also submit your feedback to the below link.  This enables direct constructive feedback to the product management team for consideration with future releases and updates.

Hi Michael,

Thanks for your response. I have been using the NWC from CADMEP from the start, so I've never actually had the native dwg appended.

I re-ran the tests a couple of days after I made this initial post - now a few weeks later I've come into the same problem again when reloading the consultants latest CADMEP model in. Exactly the same issue as described above.

I have run a few tests and the GUID's of a single CADMEP element has not changed, suggesting it has nothing to do with this - I thought this may had been causing the issue as these are the parameters Navisworks CD uses to detect the geometry? I've also tried this on various workstations, versions of Navisworks and with varied option settings (including defaults).

Do you have any other suggestions? Thanks for the link, I will also post feedback there.

Ben
