We've been dealing with a file saving issue for a while now and are working toward a solution.
Our system is creating multiple NWC~ files.
I believe these are not a part of normal NavisWorks and that these files are another effect of our save issues.
Can anyone add confirmation?
When opening a CAD file, Navisworks Simulate and Manage will create an *.nwc file right next to it. This file is a cache file that contains the CAD objects and their properties, converted to a Navisworks file format. The idea is that the next time that Navisworks opens the unchanged CAD file, it does not have to do any convertion any more and can directly open the *.nwc file. This supposes that the user launching Navisworks needs the right to create and write into new files on the same location where the original CAD files are. It could be you have the right to create, but not to modify files on that location, because of the file system or because of an anti-virus or back-up program locking the files.
For some 3D applications, there are Navisworks exporter plug-ins so that they get the additional functionality to save as *.NWC. If these are in a higher file format that an original Navisworks can read, this might also be a possible cause, but then it only should happen on files that come out of, lets say Revit or another 3D application that exported *.nwc files.
Finally, some programs create ~ files as backup when they start editing the normal file. When then this program crashes because it cannot read *.nwc files, then the next time it will create a ~~ file and so on. Check your cheduled tasks.
