.dwf revit export crashing navisworks

Hi,

Has anyone encountered a problem where opening a .dwf file causes navisworks to crash and immediately pop up the error report dialogue? If so what is the cause and how can i fix it?

Are there any specific settings which i should check before exporting as a .dwf file?

Thanks!

Can you provide any more information?

Which version of Navisworks? Are there any Service packs installed?

Where did the DWF come from?

Do any other DWF files load?

Operating System? 32 or 64 bit?

Do you have a sample DWF file you can upload?

4ndyc  ,

Hello. First, have you tried the Navisworks Exporter? The output will be directly in Navisworks format and have more Revit properties for use.

If you prefer a DWF, I would check on the file itself. Does the DWF export open in Design Review? If it does not open in DR, then there may be a problem with the file.

Have you tried to build the DWF in smaller parts?

In Revit, with your model in 3d view, type “VG” and hide a portion of your model from view. For testing, I would probably hide ¾ of the model. Then, when you export to dwf, only export the 3d model to start.

If this imports, export the next ¼ of see if you can export to DWF and then append into Navisworks.

Basically, I would try and break the model down into manageable chunks and see if you can get them all appended into Navisworks.

I have seen one or two really complex Revit models that cannot quite convert to DWF effectively in one chunk. It is possible that you are running into this.

Thanks for the replies!

Sorry Lee, i forgot to provide further info.I'm primarily trying to get the file to open in navisworks 2011 but i've also tried 2012 with the same results. With regard to where the file came from, it was created by a colleague using revit MEP 2011 which was then exported as a .dwf. Strangely enough all of his other .dwf exports open fine.

I've also tried the suggestion by David even though it's not a complex model (just some basic fire service elements). One very odd thing i've found is that if any two elements are hidden or deleted from the model then exported it opens without any problems in navisworks. The file also opened without problems in Design Review 2011.

Why would an extra 2 elements cause the exported file to crash navisworks? It seems totally irrational 😕

I've uploaded the .dwf file for further investigation even though i'm not sure how useful it will be. I wanted to upload the original revit file but it seems attachments are restricted to 1.5mb.

Cheers!

HI

Even I am facing the same issue with navisworks 2017 . Well I created a DWF file using autocad civil 3d 2017 and tried to open it using navisworks 2017. The dwf file opens. However when i try to take quantity using the 2d quantification tool called quick line(Q) the navisworks 2017 program crashes and an error message is displayed. See the attached screenshot.

However there is no problem in using navisworks 2016 for opening the same dwf file and doing 2d quantification. So I was wondering why the navisworks 2017 version crashes. Are there any fixes available??
