Cant see lights or materials applied in Animation file

I created an animation with saved viewpoints and then exported to an animation (Avi). I selected OpenGL. I applied minimal lights and about 3-4 materials. I applied an Environment BG as well. The movie file shows no signs of any lights or materials applied. If I select Presenter for the movie file, it is very dark and rough. I still dont see signs of any materials applied either and the rendering process is 10x-15x longer than that of the OpenGL. Can anyone assist me in trying for some optimal settings for a walk-thru for a lighted corridor. I understand that there are better programs for this like 3DS Max but that is something I dont have access to Honestly if I did I could acheive the exact results I need quickly. Any assistance would be appreciative. Thanks.
