I have just upgraded from Navisworks Manage 2012 to 2013 & now no Autocad materials show in Navisworks for our existing models. I created a test model from new in autocad with some solids & applied materials to them in autocad, then appended it to a new .nwf file in Navisworks manage 2013 & still materials dont show like they used to in Navisworks 2012.
I also get an error when opening an existing Navisworks model (see attached).

The Options should have search paths for locating materials. If I remember correctly there have been changes to how materials are handled; what version of AutoCAD are you using to create the DWG files and assign materials?
We have existing models that were created in Autocad & Inventor 2012 with materials not showing & I get the error dialog, but the example I posted was created in Autocad 2013 as a test.
With the 2012 version of navisworks it allways represented Autocad & Inventor materials.
Thank you for your post. In this case there may be a couple issues at play here. Would it be possible to get a file sample to confirm results and see how they may compare in house? This may also help us further conclude and supply suggestions moving forward. Thank you and we look forward to your reply.
Hi Michael
Attached is an autocad 2013 file with 3 solids each with a material applied to it, and the Navisworks Manage 2013 .nwf file, with the autocad model appended to, this shows no materials in rendered view ! If I do the same thing using Autocad 2012 & Navisworks Manage 2012 it does show the materials !
Also attached is a screenshot of the same project model (we are currently working on), In Navisworks Manage 2012 & 2013 showing the difference.
Since we have upgraded from 2012 to 2013 none of the materials from Autocad or Inventor show in Navisworks.
Michael -
Is there any update to this???? It's been 4 months now.
Thank you for your post. In this case this issue (the transfer of materials) is documented and the development team has corrected this ill behavior within the 2015 software. I have taken screen shots of what I see in the products with the files supplied. Within the 2013 and 2014 products the manual approach of utilizing presenter and adjusting the materials for visuals, is still needed. I do apologize for this inconvenience with the translation from one format software to the other.
One additional suggestion to help build momentum in adjusting this in previous releases of the software (2013 and 2014), would be to leverage the development product feedback link. Within this link you can submit feedback that relates to the “business impact” of the current limitations and translations of the software. This terminology is important to help in building a case with our development team. Again I do apologize for the inconvenience of this limitation in the current software configurations, but again this is fixed in the 2015 software release with the transition from Navisworks Presenter to the Autodesk Render engine and graphics (same now as all products).
