Animation question!!!

I got Two questions about using navisworks to do animation:

1. i'm trying to add an animation to the timeliner: when this activity is done, all the foundations would turn grey. But when I created the animation set and choose to use this animation in timeline, nothing happens in the simulation. I tried to use script, still nothing happens. I'm wondering why.

2. I'm trying to show the formwork being installed from left to right, like water flowing from left to right. I'm wondering how to do this.

Appreciate your help~~,

Jiang

Hi luj122

For item 1 and 2, what types (color, move, rotate) of animations are you creating in Animator?

What is likely occurring is the Animation Behavior is set to scale so that the animation starts and ends at the same points in time as the simulation’s task.  However, once the animation ends, the animation sets return to their original positions/appearances.

If that is the case, you’d need to use a “Match Start” animation behavior and lengthen the key frames from the order of seconds to play in real time in Animator to the order of days/weeks/months as the actual construction task for the entire length of the point in time when the tasks starts in project time, until the end of the entire project finish date.

If you use the mouse wheel in the timeline in Animator to zoom out, you’ll see that you can zoom out to the magnitude of days.

There is another forum post on this topic linked below:

From what you described, you want the color of the animated items to turn grey and remain that way after the task completes for the remainder of the simulation.  If that is all that is needed, perhaps the easiest way instead would be to leave the Animation Behavior as Scaled and change the End Appearance to grey in the Appearance Definition of your Task Type.  If it a matter of only one set of objects attached to a task that should have an end appearance of grey, then you could create a new appearance definition and set that task type to that appearance definition.  This is assuming that the animation is only a color animation.

With regard to installing formwork left to right, if it is a matter of an item moving left to right, this should be possible through a translation animation.  However, it sounds as if you would like to use a section plane to move across left to right limiting the sectioning to only the items attached to the task. Unfortunately, this is not possible as a section plane sections the entire model. There is an existing wishlist item logged in this regard.  The workaround instead would be to break the items up into pieces and create multiple individual tasks or else perhaps you could use a scale animation to have the item “stretch” out left to right.
