2014 Hotfix 3 - IFC Tip

Here's a tip for anyone out there using an IFC imported to Revit opened directly in Navisworks 2014 with Hotfix 3 installed....

IFC geometry from a Revit file will load into Navisworks unless you have the "Coverted construction parts" buttom checked in the Revit File Reader in Options Editor.

This wasn't the case before the lastest Hotfix.  I discovered this by opening up a federated model and discovering the geometry in the structural steel (IFC imported from Tekla) was completely missing.  Luckily it was a quick fix, but I scratched my head for a minute.

Has anyone else discovered this or any other issues with the latest Hotfix?   Hopefully Autodesk will take a look and figure out why this would happen, since the IFC familes are technically not Revit "construction parts".

Let me know if this helps any of you all.

Thanks for sharing this tip.

I can get this investigated but first let me confirm the facts:

- you import an IFC into Revit and save the RVT

- you then open the Revit model in Navisworks

Depending on the options setting you get the IFC elements or not.

Is that accurate?

Exactly...the IFC elements load depending on a file setting that has no reference to IFC elements....here a breakdown of what happened...

1. Open IFC in Revit

2. Save Revit model

3. Append Revit model to Navisworks Manage 2014 (pre-Hotfix 3) federated model

4. Work for over three months with Navisworks federated model with no problems

5. Install Hotfix 3

6. Open Navisworks federated model

7. Revit model geometry missing and empty in Selection Tree

8. Scratch head, use profanity, and start trouble shootings settings searching for a solution.

9. Look through Revit File Reader settings

10. Click check box next to Convert construction parts

11. Open Navisworks federated model

12. IFC loads again

Hope this give you an idea what happened.  I can duplicate the glitch by un-checking Convert construction parts, restarting Navis, and opening the file.
