Mobu 2014 Interface differences....

Hi all,

I recently updated to mobu 2014 from 2012. A couple things that stand out right away I wanted ask about are that my 2 monitor setup does not "stick" even tho I update the layout. I use the main program window on my left monitor (not the main monitor in windows) and tear off some tool bars and such over to the right hand monitor. This is minor, but it bugs me everytime I start I have to re arrange my screens. You can see the first grab is my 2012 layout and the second is how 2014 opens up even tho I move the windows around and save the layout.

The other little thing that slows me down quite a bit is that I use the Maya keys for all my AutoDesk products, but now pressing Q no longer puts mobu to selection mode. I have to click on the operation button again, or mouse over to the selection button and click.

I've used mobu for years, really enjoy it. Would these things be considered bugs? Are they worth reporting to someone? I am sure as I keep using 2014 more questions will pop up, thanks for the help.

I MotionBuilder 2013 is the same with the Q... I really hoped that it will be fixed in 2014.

Thanks. Sorry the images are so small in my post. I think you can imagine 2 24" monitors, side by side in each picture....maybe I can edit it.

Layout Issue: I am not 100% this will work for you, but a co-worker has something similar and another co-worker fixed slightly pulling in the window edges from full screen. What I mean is once your in full screen, just dragging in the edges a little bit, nothing major or noticable to the quick eye it will look like full screen, and then try saving that out in a layout. It's almost like MotionBuilder doesn't like full screen, so it pops back to a layout which it does like.

I am not understanding standing your Maya shortcut issue, are you saying when you change to Maya Keyboard Short Cuts they are not taking?

Everything and anything is worth reporting, it will only improve the product 🙂

Thank you very much, I'll try that window trick. What I mean in the other instance is that the Maya shortcuts are not implemented the same as they work in Maya and in previous versions of Mobu. The w, e, r keys work as expected, but the q key should "quit" the current tool and return you to selection mode. Right now, in Mobu 2014 the q key does nothing, and you have to select the "select" tool with the mouse, or click again on the tool you are using.

You can edit the Maya Keyboard Layout here:

C:\Program Files\Autodesk\MotionBuilder 2014\bin\config\Keyboard\Maya.txt

When I compare the file against MotionBuilder 2012 (I am just using a file compare tool, P4Merge), I see some differences forsure, you might need to tweak them back to what you want them to be. But if what you want has the right hotkey already and yet is still not working, then I would think this is a bug and you should let Autodesk know.

I see one that had a 'q' in it in 2012, but now is a 'o' in 2014....anyways I would read through this file to see if you can find the hotkey you are using is still set right.

You will need to re-start MotionBuilder after tweaking this file,

Good Luck,

Kristine

Thank you very much! I edited the text file and put the Q back in place, and moved the O to where the Q was. (action.tool.character.activate_soft_release= {NONE:Q*DN}) Since I have never used O as a short cut in Mobu, I think I am safe for a while.

Also, your other tip worked as well! Thanks so much, I am chugging away again in Mobu 2014 🙂
