How do I delete a character from the scene?

I have an existing character within my current scene, but I noticed that a bone was missing. I now want to delete the character and import a new one. I tried selecting the character from Scene menu in the Naviator, but that did not delete all of the characters elements. I want to know how to delete it completely from the scene.

from the navigator, you have to right click on the character root, select branches, and then delete.

If is not working, delete the control rig, but select branches at first. good luck
