I'm new to Maya and have lately been having this issue where some polygons on my model all look rough and seperated when they shouldn't? Sorry I'm not sure if this is a basic problem or not, but does anyone know how to fix this?
Looks like a normal issue...go to Top Menu bar....Normals>soften edges....this is a very important setting in any 3D package, learn what it does.
There's hard edges too...."set normal angle" is doing manually, default is 30 and is a good setting for objects that have hard edges and soft ones....useful too is reverse normals or unlock and set to face.
Sometimes if values are too high the surface might start appearing dark so be a ware of that...there's always a sweet spot but is a very easy function to learn....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMgjVJogIbc
