Verts do not stay in line *Beginner*

Hello,

I just started in Maya and do have a problem. I created a simple cube. When i move the cube in the z-axis it also moves a little in the y-axis. Furthermore if for example i move just the 4 vertexes of the "back" in the z-axis, the vertexes also move in the y-axis. That is not what i want, because the front and back vertexes are not in line anymore. I took some screenshots so that you know what i mean. Is that normal? What am I doing wrong?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Look into your move tool settings, maybe refelection is on, try to reset the tool.

Carefull with soft selection option too, it's easy to accidently enable it...press B to go away and B to enable.

Thank you. It works now. I changed the tool settings from "custom axis orientation" to "object". Now i can move the box on just one axis and the vertexes stay in line.
