Modeling: Why are some polygon objects dark?

I'm modeling a cartoon man. I've started working on the shoes but the shoes look dark. Darker than any other body part. Why is that? At first I thought it was the normals but i flipped that, it didn't help.

I'm also modeling the teeth. I have the same problem there. I don't know why but they're looking pretty dark. What should I do? I'm using maya 2015.Screenshot (20).png

Have you assigned any materials to the model, or are you just using the default Lambert?

Nope, I haven't assigned any materials.

Are your Normals facing out?

In her first message, she said she had checked that, but they really do look reversed, don't they?

What happens if you switch viewport renderers? Right above the viewport, click on Renderer and try one of the Legacy options and see if that makes a difference.

Thanks, it doesn't happen when I switch to legacy high quality viewport. what does that mean?

Might have something to do with your graphics card.  It seems like different cards perform differently using Viewport 2.0.

Thanks! Mystery solved 🙂
it never happened with maya 2014 😮

That may be because 2014 didn't default to Viewport 2.0 so you probably never noticed...

I don't think that will affect the mesh when I start texturing
