Modeling and texturing a Curtain?

What is the best way to model a curtain that also needs to be textured?

I was thinking on the lines of starting with a plane with a high tessellation. This plane would be easy to texture cos it would be flat.

Is there a way to then "warp" the plane using a sine wave? At any given time, I would like to be able to unwarp the curtain back to the plane to allow me to manipulate the textures. Is this possible?
