I have two elements. One is going through the other one. Both element have open edges. I want to merge the two elements to get only one. Where polygon of each element cross, this should become the new edges. Extra (polygon that goes further than edge) should be removed
It seems that you're looking for a boolean operation. You should read this topic: User Reference > Creating Geometry > Creating Compound Objects > Boolean Compound Object.
If this is a pic of your actual model, there is a very easy way.
-Delete the side panels (protrusion) of Element 1. Do not delete the back poly. -Attach Element 1 to Element 2 if they are not already attached. - Go to sub-object Border, select both sets of open edges - one belonging to Element 2 and Element 1. Choose "Bridge".
I hope this makes sense. There are many different ways to get the same result, but this is just one of them.
Bridge is a good idea, but I forgot to tell you that the real drawing is much complex. I made this simplifiy example to show. In the real drawing, it would be difficult to bridge all the edges.
If you want to work with Boolean, you should close your open edges either by capping or creating polys for the holes. Otherwise Boolean will create edges where the two elements intersect, but it will not merge the two the way you want. Also, make sure they are separate objects and not two elements within an object.
Hello, Got the same problem, and found a solution. Just weld vertices of polygons you want to merge into elements and thats it! Strange, but didnt found this solution on forums(wich were just 2 ).
