Hello, I'm new to Maya and while trying to model a wine bottle a ran into a problem with smoothing it. A black ring appears around the model when I try to smooth it by pressing "3".
I assume it's because the inner face (black instead of gray) pretrudes the outer one due to the smoothing effect. (see images)
Any ideas, how I can fix that?
you might have some bad geometry in there,..check for faces inside, double vertices, Ngons and unconnected edges.
Bottle should be clean mostly quads.
i think the problem here is that you see the inside wall of the bottle coming out because it has less subdivisions than the outside. because of this it´s affected in a different way from the smoothing. to make it fit you need the same amount of subdivisions on either side.
