How to redo weird mesh smooth?

Hello,

I am fairly new to Maya, and i really want to learn the programm in and out.

I am following a tutorial where you build a living room. But i constantly get stabbed in the back by maya ..

I was working with insert edge loop, everything went really great, but then BOOM weird ****ing smooth. The fact that this smooth pops up once in a while (probably due to my own typos) is really bloody annoying since you cant just ctrl-z it.. But also now i dont even see a 'polysmoothblabla' option in input.

Please help.

All you need to do is place your edge loops around the edges of the steps and then hit the 3 key, you could also bevel it.

This is a common mistake new users have when trying to use subdvizion surfaces.( look on line to see how sudvision meshes are modeled)

Don't forget to delete your history too as you model it.

I would stay with polygon modeling only for an interior room, only use subdivision for dressing the room perhaps.

You may have hit the smooth preview key (3) by mistake.

Simply hit (1) to change it back (with the stairs selected).
