How to model pleats?

Could anyone suggest or tell me how I go about creating upholstery pleats details on a sofa like in the image?

May I ask what the final application is for the pleated model?

Thanks for you reply. I have now managed to create this pleat detail by using Subdivision NURMS and extruding edges. 

If you have an easier/better method to suggest please do. I am hoping to create a realistic render model.

Glad to hear you managed to solve it. If you're interested in other poly modeling tools, do take a look at the Graphite Modeling tools. There are some great tools found in Freeform section for organic modeling as well as hard-surface modeling.
