Half Cylinder Question

I want to achieve a half cylinder with ends capped, I have created a line and attached an arc to it via the modyfier, then added an extrude modyfier. I have selected both start and end cap but I am not getting any capping in the end result. Is there a better way to achieve this, I am going to try loft instead.

Which modifier? Why a Line and an Arc?
What's wrong with using the Cylinder primitive > Editable Poly > Remove half > Bridge the open side ? Or simply make the Line Renderable > Editable Poly > Remove the end poly > Shift+Scale the Border inwards to create the cap > Delete half > Bridge the open side?

Screenshots would help...

Or, create a Primitive Cylinder with Slice On. Set "Slice From" value to 0, and "Slice To" value to 180.

I agree that this isn't the easiest way, but answering your question: It's not enough to attach the line, you also need to weld the vertices together, so that the spline is closed. Otherwise you'll get the described result no matter if you are using "extrude" or "loft".

Hope it helps

Problem with Slice is it doesn't create quads on the flat side, in fact it doesn't even create reasonable edge loops around the object.
Slice on the left, Bridge method on the right.
