Hi there guys,
So my issue is this, I have been given this model to complete as part of a college assessment piece and the tut they gave me tended to avoid explaining how to avoid tris so now the models lousy with them, any suggestions on how I can turn them into quads and generally get rid of them.
Any general feedback is welcome as well.
Thanks in advance.
Hi. Getting rid of triangles into quads involves mostly re-cutting, adding, and collapsing edges where it's needed. It's hard to give you a specific example without a samples scene. If you could detach a small section of the model with some triangles and upload it I'd be glad to take a look at it. The file must be zipped if you want to attach it your post.
Hi. Your attachement didn't make it. Want to try again. 🙂
To get familiar with poly modeling tools in Max:

This one is probably more than 10 years old, but it's been republished here on AREA. An oldie but still a goodie, imo:

Below are Maya tutorials, but the idea is the same across all programs:
When you get comfortable with using the tools, you can geek out below:

Subdivison Modeling History - Earlier years. Unfortunately, Subdivisionmodeling.com shut down. You can still find it here via "Way Back Machine" Web Archive.

Hopefully this one makes this one through.
Thanks for all the tutorails guys
