Can't select certain vertices/ or a single vertex using polygon create.

Hi,

I am trying to create a polygon to attatch the vertices in the image below:

The red vertices are all single vertices, nothing underneath them. The bottom two can be selected when I start shaping out the polygon:

But the top two can't be selected. The mouse icon doesn't recognise the vertex as a point, (couldn't find a way of screenshotting the mouse icon) and doesn't change to a crosshair, and when I click there, it makes an extra vertex off in the distance:

I have tried moving the topology around, removing all lines connecting to those vertices that don't connect up, I have tried doing it from side view etc.

I thank you for reading and trying to help out.

Cheers

Lucio

Difficult to tell from the images what is wrong. Can you save a temporary copy of the scene with just that object in it, Zip it and attach it to a reply? Will be much easier to see what's going on with the actual model in front of us.

Got it - I'll have a look. Tip:- everyone has zip (even on linux) but not everyone has winrar. That's why I said Zip, also because until very recently .rar files would not attach but .zip files would.

Ahhh - now I see what you're trying to do. No, you can't do that. An Edge can only have 2 Polys attached to it - one on either side. You would have 3 connected to that vertical edge, which is not possible.
I would suggest that you select the Edge between the 2 lower vertices (in the first image above) and Extrude it upwards (Shift+Move it) then backwards then downwards to create the (basic) wheel arch. You'll have to create the vertical polys on both sides to complete it properly.

[edit] In fact, select the Border aound the hole and Extrude that upwards then Bridge the sides (switch to Edges and de-select the front and back edges). Less work 😉 [/edit]

Thanks for the help, I've made this temporary work around: http://puu.sh/aGZnZ/b97be3fe23.png

Is there any way of connecting this box to the hull of the vehicle? I guess not if it means that vertical edge would always have 3 sides to it :(.

In the long run I was hoping to have the outside panel of the vehicle rotate into the wheel box as an animation, and have a 3rd/4th hover fan on the inside of the wheel. I guess I could just do it as two different meshes and when they are put into the game these are for, just not have it show the transformation process.

Thanks for the help, I appreciate you taking the time.

If you Extruded it from the existing edges then it IS connected to the hull, just not where you'd like it to be.
What you'd have to do is break the existing vertices so you have 2 parallel vertical edges - rather like where a normal, closed, car door meets the car body (front and back and underneath that Box) - then the box would be "separate" and could later be moved. Might actually be better to create it as a separate object otherwise you'll be looking into Morphs, or animated vertices, if the game engine allows it) in order to rotate that section.
