Advice on how to model something similar to this (please)

Hi,

I'm new to Maya so don't know too much about polygon modelling. I'd like to model a form similar to that within this image. Could anyone give me advice on how I should go about doing something similar or even some keywords that I can look up to find tutorials (or links to videos).

So far I've read into 'parametric' and 'generative' modelling and that's as far as I've got. But not sure if that's even needed.

Any help appreciated!

Thanks

I would use curves, but for polygons modeling you could cut a sphere in half with the right number of subdivisions you want. then shape the down part, after that you could extrude the part you shaped upwards then continue adding details..

You mean you would use curves in software such as Alias? Not Maya

Curves in Maya would be a great way to shape something like this.
