Fatal Errors on edit... MDT6

I have probably been booted out 8 times this morning. Occasionally I double click a sketch dimension for a change, it fails there. Occasionally there's no editing activity whatsoever, just a scroll zoom. Is this just the nature of MDT? I'm green at it. One month. -doug FATAL ERROR: Unhandled Access Violation Reading 0x0004 Exception at 57b3b42ch 08/04/2004 at 09:38:18.889 Drawing: F:\Sprague\177\177620.dwg ------------- FATAL ERROR: Unhandled Access Violation Reading 0x0004 Exception at 65466013h 08/04/2004 at 11:37:05.421 Drawing: F:\Sprague\177\177827.dwg ------------- FATAL ERROR: Unhandled Access Violation Reading 0x419109d7 Exception at 6546a8d7h 08/04/2004 at 12:08:58.921 Drawing: F:\Sprague\177\177840.dwg ------------- FATAL ERROR: Unhandled Access Violation Reading 0x0000 Exception at 57a11556h 08/04/2004 at 12:13:25.999 Drawing: F:\Sprague\177\177837.dwg -------------

start up mdt, and create a new blank drawing. now go to file..utilities..recover desktop. that will present a dialog box just like file..open, so open these files you listed below. after they open, hit the F2 key to read any error messages, and follow any instructions there. Also, under "Assist"-"Mechanical options"-"Preferences" set Desktop Audit Control to "always". This continually checks all drawings for errors and corrects them if possible. If you keep having problems you should reply with your system specifications (Processor, RAM, Operating System, Video Card, MDT release & SP #.) While it may not be due to these factors it helps to determine the cause. The current SP for MDT6 is SP4 with assembly.arx updated. Type amver at the command line to see what version and SP you are using. Hi Kevin - Every drawing replies: Auditing Mechanical Desktop Data... Number of errors found: 0 Number of errors fixed: 0 Auditing Mechanical Desktop Data complete. I'm guessing it's not a RAM problem, since nothing else was eating up memory. However, I plan to bring the machine up from 256M to 1G. Odd that there are no problems in most situations, even with a large assembly open. I noted yesterday that if I 'open to Edit' a drawing external to the assembly, it's more likely to crash out. If I 'activate' and edit the part within the assembly, it seems less crash-prone. Unless that's just coincidental to a 'good day'. -doug

Command: amver Mechanical Desktop(R) Power Pack R6 (no revs or SP) I'm at a new job, it made sense for me to provide my box for the first 'trial' month. I expect they'll set me up with a better one as time moves on. Now if only they'd move up to Inventor...not gonna happen. Thanks for the suggs. -doug

The latest: The instruction at "0x008fd722" referenced memory at "0x00000001c". The memory could not be "read". Click on OK to terminate the program. The quotes on "read" are cute. I would have preferred a second option: "Click on Cancel to continue without terminating the program." Are these notices an indication that I have a "Memory Leak"? -doug "Douglas Barr" wrote in message news:41110f49$1_2@newsprd01... > I have probably been booted out 8 times this morning. given the fact that you have no service packs installed, my recommendation is to install up to at least sp3. You can find these on the autodesk website. SP4 won't install without SP3&historical updates applied. SP3 attempts to run, but the message "Error 114: The AutoCAD Mechanical 6 update was not applied." appears at the outset. Reboot changes nothing. Followed the readme files scrupulously. Thanks for the suggestions Kevin & Claude, I guess I'll just have to continue stumbling along. Autosave now set to 5 minutes! -doug "claude" wrote in message news:41139d7f_2@newsprd01... > "Kevin Terry" a ??????? news:41136e95_2@newsprd01: > > > given the fact that you have no service packs installed, my recommendation > > is to install up to at least sp3. Make sure you download the right service pack it should be for "Autodesk Mechanical Desktop 6" not "AutoCAD Mechanical 6" :

http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/index?siteID=123112&id=2334435&linkID=4183232

I'm not sure, but you may have to sequentially apply service packs starting from SP1.

Thanks Lon, that appeared to be the problem. I'm so green at MDT I don't know the difference between Mechanical Desktop and AutoCAD Mechanical. (what is the diff?) -doug "lneufeld" wrote in message news:4527023.1091810938052.JavaMail.jive@jiveforum1.autodesk.com... > Make sure you download the right service pack it should be for "Autodesk Mechanical Desktop 6" not "AutoCAD Mechanical 6" : > > http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/index?siteID=123112&id=2334435&li nkID=4183232 > > I'm not sure, but you may have to sequentially apply service packs starting from SP1. > > Lon

Desktop is 3-d and mech is 2-d. Mech is pretty much AutoCAD on steriods, whereas Desktop is a parametric modeler. All based on AutoCAD core.
