delays when savings

Has anybody experienced a delay after the file has saved?.. when you cannot do anything for a few minutes... This is on a 20meg large assy file working accross a server..
We are running a 1000mhz p3 with over 1gig of ram and there are no problems with the network..
Any suggestions are appreciated..

Many thanks..

Cris,

When working with really huge (and I would consider
a 20Meg dwg to be huge) files I see several kinds of delay when there is no
obvious reason for it. I think some of it is OS related (slow releasing of RAM
for example), some are graphics related...

Maybe opt for a better computer?

Regards,

Hi Chris

I have had the same problem since I started
using MDT twelve months ago. I have an 1800 xp AMD Athlon system. It's easy for
people to suggest upgrading your computer but MDT is expensive on it's own
without having to upgrade your PC as well. I can't say that my PC upgrade made a
fat lot of difference. My PC still hangs after saves and takes loads of
time to update drawing views. We have just upgraded to Inventor but I have not
used it enough yet to make an objective comment.

It sounds like a network speed issue. First, saving across a network
will always be slower than your local drive. What speed network are you
running? Have you had your network administrator check the traffic?

A good test would be to copy the entire assembly to your local drive,
then try a save from there.

This is defenitely not network problem - I have that problem all the time even though I work from my local HDD. Only ine solution - uprgade to Inventor and let the worst CAD software ever die in peace.

Dejan,

Don't believe that IV will solve all speed issues.
I found IV to be nice and fast on small projects, but prefer MDT for really huge
ones. Just my experience.
