Customizing BOM

Hello all. I am hoping that there is a way to automatically get the updated measurements of an altered part in the BOM. I am putting together a structure using the standard parts tubular steel. After inserting it in the drawing as a new part I check out the BOM selection in the tree and and the measurement would read for example 311.0625. Cool, so after I mate the column to a hip beam and cut the beam to fit a connection plate and base plate I check the BOM measurement again, and it still reads 311.0625 whereas the actual cut length is 108 inches. It would be awesome if I were able to get the actual updated lengths automatically somehow. Is there a way to do this thus eleminating the possiblity of human error. Any help would be appreciated.

Good Night
Mike

Hello Jason. Thank you for taking the time to try to help. We have been using MDT 6, and recently changed to 2009 and Inventor. We mainly use MDT though. I have attached a BOM as an xls. I tried to upload the .dwg assy but couldn't do it. Thanks again for any info you can contribute. Let me know if there is any other questions, or if I can try to help you with anything in return. Have a good evening.

You'll have to probably zip the dwg file to post it.

Here is one for example. If you notice the end of the beams have been cut, but when I try to use the MDT BOM the origional length of the tube is displayed and not the cut length. Any ideas on how to bring in the accurate size? (lxwxh)

Thank you very much!

Not in MDT. Inventor will do it. You'll have to draw the beam to the correct
length in MDT and then alter the ends as needed.
