Autodesk: Dimensioning in MDT6 is driving me nuts!

Has Autodesk addressed the implications AMSYMSCALE and AMPSCALE etc in MDT6?
This is driving me nuts!

Why does my page layout get tweeked when changing values for AMSYMSCALE and
vice versa? MDT should NOT modify the scale factor for new dimensions just
because I changed the my page layout. Likewise, MDT shouldn't touch my page
layout when I change the scale for dimensions.

HOW CAN I SET MDT6 TO NOT APPLY ANY DIMSCALE OVERRIDES WHEN PLACING
REFERENCE DIMENSIONS IN A LAYOUT???

(Sorry for yelling, but this is really screwing up my drawings and wasting a
lot of my time.)

Joe, I've (thankfully) lost track of most of this, but....

You said in another post that you have "force usage" checked, so I think that all that's left is the AMOPTIONS > Standards > Layout
Scale > Use 1:1 Scale in Layout.

My preferences are the same as yours (don't mess wid my dims) and things are working ok.

(By the way, what's AMPSCALE?)

Jeff,

AMPSCALE is the variable that stores the "Use 1:1 scale in layout" or "Use
Selected Scale in Layout" option.
AMSYMSCALE is the variable that stores the decimal equivalent of what is
entered in the "Layout Scale:" dialog.
Note that AMPSCALE does not change the value of AMSYMSCALE, it just ignores
it.

I have no idea what the "Force usage" option is supposed to do. Acording to
knowledgebase article TS42893, it is supposed to "use standard AutoCAD
behavior for dimensioning", But I havn't noticed any difference with it set
or not set. Also this knowledgebase article refers to MDT 4, and I never
noticed any difference in dimensioning behavior until version 6.

My issue is that MDT6 *always* places a DIMSCALE *override* on reference
dimensions placed in a drawing view. I do not want an override set to 1 or
any other value. I want DIMSCALE to be defined by the dimension style.
There should be no overrides with the exception of DIMLFAC (so the dimension
actually displays the length measured in the model's scale, not the
drawing's scale). As far as I know, this was the way it worked in pre-MDT6
versions.

Anyone who is used to working with dimension styles that have DIMSCALE set
to something other than 1.00 must be having problems with this new behavior.
Maybe I'm the only one. Anyway, this is forcing me to re-think the way I
have been working for the last 10 years and I have (almost) resigned myself
to adapt to the New Order.

Hi, Joe,

I think you'll have noted the marked absence of responses to this thread. I think that's because the subject has been flogged so
many times that no one has the energy left.

Autodesk, for whatever reason, shot themselves in the foot with the AMSYMSCALE variable and cost their collective user base millions
of dollars in lost time in the process.

I would suppose that most users have by now found their own personal ways of dealing with the changes. Possibly your best course of
action would be to describe the methods you are accustomed to using and maybe someone with similar habits can tell you how they've
dealt with it.

Good luck with it,
Jeff

Jeff,

Thanks for the reply. I went searching through previous posts, but didn't
see and responce from anyone at Autodesk saying "This is how it is. It is
not a bug. There is no way to do it differently." I remember when they
changed the paradigm of how printing worked, there was all kind of
documentation about it. There was even a white paper explaining step by
step how to set up your printers, plot styles etc.

Now they fundamentally change dimensioning in MDT and not a peep. Hell,
AMPSCALE and AMSYMCALE aren't even listed in the online help file! And the
"help" regarding the layout scale options in AMOPTIONS in practically
non-existant. Very weird.

Maybe I just missed something somewhere along the line...
