Saving an edge selection in Maya LT 2015

Hi there!

I use Maya LT 2015 SP1 (student version) and I'm new to it. Before I used blender and prior to unwrapping UVs I marked edges as seams and blender saved them for me. It seems in Maya it's done another way, but I didn't find out how so far. Anyway, it would be exausting to unwrap the UVs every time I want to make changes.

How is it working in Maya LT 2015?

Hi duburlan,

It isn"t here you will got help but i will help you now..

  • Take a sphere , Create UVs and choose planar mapping.
  • In Edge mode , select all edge you want marked  as seams (Edges that you want to define as texture borders)
  • Edit Uvs and choose Cut UV Edges
  • In Uvs Mode , select all UV you want unwrap
  • Now , you can using Unfold3D or  Unfold Legacy.

Thank you, BlackGame!

Now imagine I'm unrapping a character. At some step I want to go back and adjust my seam edges. I haven't found anything helping me with this.
There is Bonus Tools plug-in, which gives the ability to step back and edit the seams, but it seems the plug-in doesn't fit to my version of Maya. It installs, but doesn't appear in the menu.
I cannot even install SP2 update, it says "No Maya was found on the PC".

Hi,

Bonus Tools is exactly what I said before.

So no problem :

  • go back in Edge Mode , add more Edges selection
  • Edit UVsCut Uv Edges.
  • In Uvs Mode , select all UV that you want Unwrap ,
  • Unfold & Normalize , it's ok .

You can Vote HERE for add more feature in MayaLT.

Start new installation of MayaLT and choose SP2.exe in Update Section before install MayaLT , will directly install MayaLT SP2.

If the problem exist again , asking Autodesk .

Good luck

Hi BlackGame,

Thank you for your time.

The process of unwrapping UVs is clear to me. I just want my UV seams highlighting on the 3D mesh whenever I enter Editing UVs mode. Maybe I want too much, I don't know..

I will definitely follow your last advise 😉

hi,

It's not a problem for me, if i can help Smiley Wink

Display > Polygons > Texture Border Edges

Or UV Textures Editor > Toggles the display of  texture Border for active Mesh Button

You can use Select Shell Border or some else

Have a good day
