Maya - OS Native file dialog on Mac OS 10.9.1...

When using OS Native file dialog style in Maya 2014 SP3 on Mac OS 10.9.1 Mavericks the file open and file import dialogs always default to ~/Documents instead of the current project as the Maya default file dialog does.  The OS native file dialog used to know about and open in the currently set project, but no longer.  Any suggestions to get this working again?  Thank you! -Josh

This seems to be the way it works (or doesn't work)... we have been trying to find a fix for a couple years now... one way around the annoyance is to drag your project directory over to the left column so it is clickable and a shortcut to finding the directory you really want

I think this is a recent issue - introduced with the new OSX... (have not had issues prior to 10.9.1)

Maya is not yet certified to run on it - so there's bound to be a few issues until the next update.

We've seen similar behavior on OSX 10.7 and 10.8... the file dialog seems to randomly go to the last directory you accessed instead of the scene directory in your current project when you save a scene... annoying if you aren't paying close attention.  I have assumed it was because our project files are on a mounted server, not local.

Here is the best way to boost open-save file dialog productivity in OSX:

use two tiny utility apps called "Deafult Folder X"  and "Fresh"

These two add enourmous flexibility to the native OSX file dialog (in every software), probably among the most useful uitilty apps i have ever seen.

For example Default Folder X always remembers the last 5 folders you previously used (in ANY app, all across OSX!!!) and offers it for quick selection

So for example if you work on a texture file in Photoshop, you save the file to a random folder, and let's say you need to open this texture in Maya or in another application: this last folder where you saved in Photoshop will appear in the extended file dialoge box! (in any application that has native OSX file dialoge!)

Default Folder X also shows folders for quick selection that are currently open in Finder or Path Finder! Really useful!

You can go even further to extend your workflow: mix it with another useful utility app called "Fresh" - which remembers the last 10 saved files (again, all accross OSX) and it also has a "favorite file shelf". You need to assign a global OSX hotkey to this, it comes up as a shelf anywhere you are.

soon you will not need to worry about file dialoge box anymore, it saves so much time!!
