Hello,
I have just a simple question about Maya 2015. Is it possible to get a trial license for Linux? Or is it possible to get a student license for Linux? I am really interested in trying it out in Linux. I am a member of the educational community, so I have the requirements for a student version.
Thanks in advanced.
So the education community does not support Linux versions of Maya.. Ok.. So what about the damned trial versions for linux users who may want to try maya out?
Hello legrand.simon,
Thanks for your help! I'm having trouble finding the linux version in the support page. I just seem to find the service packs and license servers. Please help!
Thanks!!
Yeah I ended up finding in the Maya documentation that the Service Packs were the actual full installers... I was able successfully install on Gentoo using the rpm command and only a few configuration tweaks.
Thanks. It would be nice though if Linux was included in the downloads dropdown boxes on the main site, even if a notice was clear and plain that said "Linux version not officially supported"
.
Hello all,
I successfully installed Maya 2015 student version in CentOS 64-bit. I am running CentOS on Vmware Workstation on Windows 7.
For me that worked up until a couple days ago - Sept 29 2015, when all of a sudden Maya just started to hang indefinitely on startup everytime. I tried doing a complete uninstall and then reinstalling to newest version - 2015 SP4, same thing. Running it with gdb produces the following backtrace, looks like the hang has something todo with the licence manager no longer getting a packet...

I tried reinstalling CentOS 7 and Maya 2015 with the latest Service Pack. When I try to run it as root it hangs for ever. Even the cursor in the terminal stopped flashing.
what output do you get when you run gdb?
just in case...
maya -d gdb
then once you're sure it's hung: ctrl c
then once gdb prompts you type: bt
and hit enter
Thanks for your help! I got it up and running again! I tried again running the maya command as root and it worked.
It would be great for Maya to also run in Linux Ubuntu!!
Maya should run on Ubuntu. its not a native install, there are install scripts on the web to convert the rpm packages using alien and the required setup changes due to the different system.
Maya shouldn't need to run as root. should be installed as root, but run as normal user. that you need to run as root would suggest a file permission error at some level
