cant interact with anything on maya 2014/mudbox 2015

cant select or interact with anything on maya 2014/mudbox 2015 interface even the viewport

(mudbox screenshot) cant use the areas in red but if minimise windows than alt+tab back in can use blue(see attatched)


it is happening on more than one computer at the moment not sure why.
