Can't add new scripts from Wavefront DVDs to Maya.

Hello, all. 

I am starting to use Maya.

I have The 2014 Student Version.

Here are my computer specs.

This problem may be a minor problem, but it's giving me a headache, so any help would be massively appreciated.

I received Wavedfront Maya DVDs from a friend of mine, and they have support files with MEL scripts in them.

I followed the instructions from a youtube video on how to install mel scripts into Maya,

If the video doesn't apply to more modern versions of Maya, please let me know.

Anyway, I follow the instructions, so I placed the MEL scripts here:

C:\Users\Greg\Documents\maya

Then,  I did the rehash thing and typed the name of the script in the editor, but I got this:

Another error I got had to do with Master and slave reference. Not sure about what that means.

So that's basically my predicament.

Please reply quickly whenver one can.

Without actually investigating the scripts you are trying to load - a bit difficult to say what is going on - but based on these being from the Alias|Wavefront era (late 90's), it's very likely a number of commands in these scripts are simply not compatible with the version of Maya you are tying to to load them in.

That makes sense. I am a horrible noob. I'll mess with the scripts to see which works with maya. Thanks for the info.
