Broken UV Texture

Hi everyone,

I'm a uni student who recently got into maya. I really like the sofware but there's an issue that causes me a bit of a frustration..

The problem is that whenever I try to add a grid texture to my model it appears in a broken, inaccurate state. I have shown the issue to my tutor who didn't seem to understand its cause. I have no idea what to do now, please help!

Here's a screenshot of the model and the UV Texture Editor Window (there isn't more than one Uv Sets) :

You need to do the UVs so that the texture falls exactly onto the model...looks like somehow it was not done properly.

You could make a new one easily with the automated projection mapping, this is a very simple model, give it another try.

It's a Mac. You can tell by the "traffic light" icons at the top left of the UV Editor.

Thanks for the replies! I'll give it a go and hopefully it will work out well.
