All save files crashes..

Hi guys!  I study 3D animation and got the student license for Maya.

Now, i have been using it for some weeks, and it really starts to enoy me..

Everytime i save a file, Ascii or not, it always crashes when i try to open the same file again. All it takes is for me to do some modelling, and the scene wont open.

I have made the same rifle and fireplace a hundred times now!!!!  

And to make it even worse, theres no error anywhere, not in the script or anything, so maya gives me no clue.... My teachers cant help me so i hope there is something wronge with the installation or so, so it can be fixed in some way..

Anyone out there that can help? Or heard of this before?
