Unable to load image

Hi, Everyone

I am new to Maya and have run into a problem. The following error occurs when i import an image into the image plane.

//Error: Image conversion (to IFF) failed //
// Error: Unable to load the image file, 'C:/path_to_image/image.jpg', for imagePlane000 //

I have tried several things that people have suggested, such as opening the image in photoshop and re-saving as a jpeg,making the file name simple (e.g. top_plane.jpg), and making sure the image is square, but none of these worked.I also tried importing a movie file and it worked fine. I am using 64 bit windows 7, and Maya 2013.I would appreciate any help with this issue.

You've probably figured this out by now - seems it's a size issue. I had the exact same problem today, and when I scaled the image down by 50% (874x366 to 437x183) in Photoshop it suddenly worked.

Hope it works/worked for you too.

PS does anyone know whether there's a max image size limit?
