Maya 2017 problem when I manually input values - they get reset

Hi all,

I have this weird problem with the Maya 2017 UI. Whenever I go to change a value with my keyboard, for instance depth on an image plane, or intensity of a light. I input the value, press enter or click in another field or tab out, it will just reset to what it was. So I have to use the slider instead, and with the slider I can't get the exact values I need.

Anyone experienced this and know a solution? There's nothing special about any of these values, happens all over the UI.

Hi,

I just wanted to let you know, that I added the workaround to the ticket with the development.

Cheers, Nadja

Could you please explain to me why we, the customers are paying to be your QA? This is TOTALLY unacceptable, seriously!
This issue has nothing to do with the OS, or language settings, it's your app. It's always Maya.

I'm on windows 7 with Swedish language I have Maya 2016, Extension 2, latest service pack and everything works. Sure the app can't convert my comma to a dot, fine I can move my hand to to typ a dot instead of a comma on the numpad.

I download 2017 and now I can't change values in the attribute editor to anything with a decimal no matter.
It simply does not register the keystroke for the dot. If I try to replace everything but the already existing dot, it just goes back to the original value.

And for the love of god and all that is holy, why have you removed the close button on the undocked attribute editor? This happened a couple of versions back and was fixed. Now you're just trolling us with old bugs.

I'm having the exact same problem that Henrik above is having.

I am on Win7, location is Sweden but I have the OS installed in English...

In Maya 2017 I can't type dots, which the previous solution might fix, but much much more importantly I can't change any value that is a float in the attribute editor.

The dot inconvenience is very much secondary. Let's say there is a float saying "0.5" somewhere. In no way can I change this to an exact value. My only option is the slider, and it is not good enough. I mark the 5 and type 12. It says "0.12", until I use enter or any other way to confirm it will either revert back to what it was before (0.5) or go down to "0.000". Every time.

I will go back to 2016 for now because I find it impossible to use Maya without being able to modify floats.

Hello. My solution should work for you as well if you do this before opening Maya 2017. It might be _slightly_ different to apply in Windows 7 but should still work. By the way, if you can't be bothered, you know you can use ctrl+mousedrag to finetune values in the attribute editor right?

Hi,

Same problem here on Windows7 and Maya2017. I tried to change Region&Language settings, nothing works.

maya 2017 + windows7 (english) + keyboard (french)

Help would be really nice. I won't use Maya 2017!

Message 27 of 37

Same problem here. Such a shame.

I have a Swedish keyboard and Maya doesn't let me input any kind of dots no matter how much I change my region-settings.

I'm on Windows 10 Home x64-bit

Yeah, worth mentioning that none of the region setting workarounds did anything for me either. I've rolled back to Maya 2016 for the time being.

I'm on Mac, english version with english keyboard. The solution does not work. Maya simply will not accept dots as an input. Ridiculous

On Mac OS X, a similar workaround exists as in Windows. If you change the decimal separator to a dot, inputting values in Maya works. To do this, go to

System preferences -> Language & Region -> Advanced

and change the separators.

EDIT: Sorry, double post

Hi @Nadja.Bueckmann ,

I have solved it, or rather managed to reproduce it for you guys.

The problem is gone if I in Windows go to Control Panel's "Time & Language" and then "Region & language" and choose "Additional date, time & regional settings". In "Region" I choose "Change date, time or number formats". If I choose "English, United States" here, the problem is gone if I start Maya. So it is surely related to the different way our languages write numbers with decimals ( comma vs period).

This isn't a very good solution for me, but I can live with it until you guys fix it 🙂

Same issue. Changing time and locations setting in Winodows does get rid of it but it is a really bad solution as I don't live in the US. Autodesk needs to get their stuff together and acknowledge this issue and fix it asap. This has been going on for WAY too long!

How are things going, Autodesk? I'm evaluating Maya at the moment to see if I can make the switch from our current renderer. Right now I am not feeling very convinced.

I too am using a Swedish keyboard layout. When browsing the decimal setting in Windows 7 I only have the option of using a comma, nothing else. So... Are you about to fix this problem or what?

Same problem here, trying the LT version 😞

Windows 10

Andreas: You should be able to type any symbol you want as separator in the Decimal point box.

Same Issue here. Swedish keyboard layout as well. Did you guys solve it eventually?
