HELP HELP HELP HELP HELLP HEEEELLLLLLPPPPPP!!!!

Ctrl+C saves and not copy and even when I select from dropdown menu

Howdy Ya'll,

So I'm working on my finals but all of sudden Maya 2016 doesn't copy objects, it seems to "SAVE" rather than copy.  I've tried using the save feature for copying but it still saves.  I can't copy anything, it just goes to "SAVE".  This can't happen when I'm working my finals.

HELP HELP HELP HELP HELLP HEEEELLLLLLPPPPPP!!!!

Thank you kindly for your time!!!

Calm down.

CTRL+C saves the current selection to a Maya file, then when you do CTRL+V it reads that Maya file. Is it actually saving your whole scene? You can always do export and export selection from the file menu. That's what I usually do. You can also check your shortcuts to see if CTRL+C is still assigned to copy. And you can always delete your prefs folder(make sure to take a copy of it if you have shelfs that you want to keep) to see if that fixes the issue.

Thank you soooooo  much for your help but I need help with clarification....

I've been busting my bum trying to figure out where in Maya 2016 to confirm my shortcuts and none of the forums have anything remotely close as a solution.  The Ctrl+C works for all other programs except this one.

I apologize but I'm not sure what this means, " You can always do export and export selection from the file menu. That's what I usually do."

Would you be so kind to provide a step by step as I'm not having any luck and my skill in maya is below beginner??Smiley LOL

Thank you kindly for your time!!!!

Hey man,

I am having the same problem. Here is the Error code if that helps.

// error file: C:/Program Files/Autodesk/Maya 2017/scripts/startup/cutCopyPaste.mel line 75: Error reading file

For me, I opened a file on my school computer using their accounts. When I got home to use it one my free student version and tried to copy some cones that I squished with the scale. I got this pop up, Maya copy paste error pop up.png

I hope this helps. This is going to be vexing if I have to make each and every item when I'm not in class.

Did we get a solution for this problem? I'm having the same issue. I checked the hotkeys and Command+C is only assigned to Copy, but whenever I hit those hotkeys, it gives me the student saving notice. I tried hitting Command+V to see if that would still work and it gave me the same student saving message as well.

Hi!

Don't use CTRL+C or CTRL+V.

Instead use Duplicate... whenever possible, far better and way more options.
