Problem - Source files - replace dwf with newer dwf

I have an ipb using a dwf that has annotations over a few snapshots. I have an updated version of the dwf. I would like the updated dwf to replace the ipb that is already in my ipb. The steps I that I am using are:

  1. Rightclick on the component
  2. Source files > Replace from Local Files
  3. Select the updated dwf (I have tried using a different filename AND also the same filename)
  4. I then click the update icon that appears
  5. I then get a box appear that says 'The given key was not present in the dictionary'
  6. I 'ok' out of that box

Problem:

I now have the original dwf (in its original position) and the updated dwf (in a different position). The annotations are still fixed to the original dwf. Given that this project is painfully slow (dwf is only 10mb), I don't want to mess around moving my annotations to the position of the updated dwf (and I shouldn't have to).

Things to note:

When comparing to the video, the 'Check File Status' appears to do nothing on my workstation. This seems odd given that I have either replaced the dwf with the same filename or put the dwf in the same directory.

A simple 2 minute job has so far taken me 2hours due to the fact that this function doesn't seem to work and my 10mb dwf is making it run slow.

AD - please note that I cannot send you the ipb because it is in excess of 100mb.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi,

I'm sorry that I can't reproduce your problem, I just get one dwf after update, just the update dwf, and the arrowhead position is moved to update position.

Could you tell me your e-mail address, I can send out a request to get the ipb file, you can upload large file to it.

Thank you

That almost sounds like AD are surprised that my problem was fixed by the service pack!

Na Miao mentioned that it was on the list of things that a major update will fix.

Thank you for providing the files to us. Without your files we can't fix it.

Thank you very much

Why, when I replace the dxf with an updated one (same filename), do I have to go and redo all my visibility, colours, etc?

This makes Publisher even more time consuming

Hi,

Do you mean dwf file? if for dwf file, I don't think we need to redo it, the visiblily and color should be kept.

Thank you

DWF, my mistake.

Colour/ material/ visibility has to be re-done. Very annoying when the designers are constantly tweaking their models. Perhaps this wouldn't happen if I could use their IAMs but, frustratingly, I have no choice but to use DWFs.

I will try and get some video next time I am faced with this problem.

Not the video that I mentioned, but just as good.

The left hand four images are my views as I have set them up and as I want them.

The right hand four images are after updating the dwf.

dwf updates.jpg

As you can see, it has simply done away with any views that I had.

Please help

The reason is that:

dwf file is not as inventor file, we can’t found the reference key in the model,if the components name changed we will consider it as a new component, in this case, we delete “*****.iam:131” and add a new component “*****.iam:3”. So the color/material/visibility can’t be kept, publisher doesn’t think they are the same components.

if you want the visibily/material/color kept in this document, you need make the component name same as the original.

In this case , you rename “*****.iam:3” to  “*****.iam:131” in inventor and export it to dwf, then update dwf file, you will find color/material/visibility will be kept for “*****.iam:131”.

cts2013 replied to me that worked for him ,so mark this workaround here in case others will also meet it.

Thank you

I can confirm that this does work - it's actually rather obvious.

What isn't overly obvious (to me) is the fact that you can 'update from local file' which does away with your colo(u)rs/ materials/ visibility - I can't see how this would be of use to me.

Anyway - as 'na.miao' has mentioned, the model that you have updated, and need Publisher to update, needs to have the same filename.
