Weld Visibility in Weldment Assemblies

Weld Visibility in Weldment Assemblies

It would be nice if you could control the visibility of individual weld beads in the assembly environment.

Visibility state should be saved in the View Representation.

In addition, LOD's should also be able to capture the Supress state of weld beads.weldvisibility.JPG

Better Display of Manufacturing Process (Welds)

We need better option to display the manufacturing process.

I’ve got a weldment and need to show different stages of assembly. In an assembly, we’d just use DV or LoD reps to show how each part is brought into the assembly rather than creating lots of assemblies to show the stages of the manufacturing process.

Unfortunately, we can’t control Welds and presumably Preparations and/or Machining using DV or Lod Reps.

We also need better control over the; preparation, weld and machining processes. It isn’t uncommon to weld two parts together and then grind back some of the first weld to enable the welding of a third part into the assembly.

This can be done in the workshop, but not in Weldments Man Sad

At present I will not have to delete all the current welds and preparations and replace with in-assembly modelling and hope their visibility and be controlled in a drawing Man Mad

We would love to use welds and the shop would to, but there is so much lacking in controlling visibility in stages of the weldment and so many situations that can't get a good weld to show up.  Almost seems like there need so be more spline smoothing and allowing the path to fill in the blanks.  Almost like the chain faces needs to be more robust and maybe more forgiving in geometry anomolies.

Thanks!

in the weldment template when setting up representations, I need the ability to exclude and exclude a weld bead in a representation.

Currently, the ability to suppress exists.  When suppressing a weld bead it suppresses the weld bead in all representations.

Exclusion and inclusion of a part does exist and works great.  Perhaps the same functionality can be extended to weld beads, preparations for each representation.

When working with a complex weldment with many weld beads it makes it easy to show the welding proceedure in a drawing.

Currently individual weld beads don't obey View Rep or LOD's in a Weld view on a drawing... Weld visibility is all on or all off.  If you need to create a drawing that shows various stages of a weldment process its just not possible.  I can't find a way to show the first 6 welds in one view and then show the next 8 welds including the first 6 in another view.

If Inventor would extend the function of Show all consumed, show unconsumed & consumed to weld visibility....or something similiar it would really help mfg engineering prints.

A part or assembly that is part of weldment can be included or excluded from a weldment representation.  Can this functionality be extended to weld beads and weld preparations.

I need this functionality to complete the documentation of a critical weldment drawing.  Is there any way that this could be expedited to the next hot fix or service pack.

we need this functionality

this would be a minor change to the code of the inventor program. Just take the code that includes and excludes a part or assembly from a representation and make it apply to weld beads.  This is not a wide sweeping change.

Without this capability the need for a weldment template would be useless.  The suppress feature only allows an all or nothing type of decision when it comes to viewing this in a drawing view.

@dylanrogers I wanted to share some technical information with you and the other voters on this idea. The weldment environment was done before we had multibody in parts. As such the architecture of weld beads is built around a single weld body, all weld features add volume to the same underlying body. Changing this architecture is actually quite a large project and non-trivial for us to do. We have to migrate all legacy data, breaking the single body up into its individual bodies, then we have to modify all consuming code to recognize that there might be more than one weld body now. This means the drawing environment, other consuming assemblies, Levels of Detail, Positional Reps, View Reps, etc. all have to change with respect to welds becoming individual bodies. This project is similar to the part multibody work we have done (not as large) but still very complicated and part multibody took several person years of development resources to accomplish.
