Scene Image Lighting - Import / Custom HDR enviroments

Scene Image Lighting - Import / Custom HDR enviroments

Hi, it would be great the double ability to:

-import external and not native Inventor  .HDR enviroments ( to add to the existing "Old Warehouse" , "Empty Lab", etc).

-to customize scene enviroment just using simple .jpg, png, tiff  shaped on classic HDR shapes (dome, cylinder, sphere, etc), for background and floor even.

Any update on this?

I'm using Inventor 2014 and Showcase 2014 and it would be very beneficial for us if I could use an IBL that was mocked up to our facilities.

I would I also love to be able to create custom IBL's of potential client locations to show what the new equipment would look like in a realistic fashion.  Let's be honest, 2d sketches only go so far, but a 3d isometric view of my proposal would take us to the next level.

Thanks,

Doug

Need the ability to create my own environment. It would be great to create one for my facility or for the customers facitiliy.

I got on my soapbox a few years ago about this but went unnoticed. I tried to do a workaround through Showcase but found I couldn't insert it into Inventor, which is made by the same company, hence making me even more irate. This is a no brainer that still hasn't been addressed and seems like it is being overlooked on purpose. Also, why not at least update the backgrounds for each release? Here's a newer old warehouse, yay! Been using the same one for years, if it exists in real life it surely has been burnt to the ground by livid designers like myself. Why would one NOT want their own company's display room and logos in the background? This is the entire idea of the render environment. Sure you can get ONE side with a custom background, but what about the other? Then it looks like you just rotated the part in the same spot instead of looking at from the other side, isn't that the whole point of rendering and the 3d environment? This limits my design ability to the point where I have to take my model to an entirely different program, Showcase, 3dsMax, Fusion?, to get my custom background. I don't use those programs or even have them installed, I don't want to. The ability is already existing within Inventor and produces more than acceptable results but we aren't trusted enough to change the templates, which there are only 6. Country Road and Alps are pixelated and unusable, Stuttgart is random and useless for any product use (why would anyone leave something in the middle of a deserted courtyard and it's a pain to line up the ground lines with the model lines), have never found a use for Salt Bed (it's not even the expansive Bonneville Salt Flats it's like you're in a crater of desolation surrounded by forest, where on earth is this hell hole and why would anyone want to put anything in it?), the only rational two are Old Warehouse for products and Desert Dawn Road for cars which get exceedingly old after years of use and people remember seeing the same old thing. Again, if you aren't going to give us the keys to the castle at least give backgrounds that match the detail level of the model rendering and make sense for product display. If the idea is to force customers to use the multiple products to get the desired result that makes me cringe as it is illogical and wasteful of time and resources. Just open up the button to choose your own HDR image and this entire rendering application becomes infinitely more useful. Thank you.

It is unbelievable that such simple and basic feature is missing in a software like autodesk inventor, which supposed to be a top software in its field. They should have a hug library of scenes for rendering.

I've been working in the same empty warehouse for like 11 years now I think.

Wouldn't a better idea be to allow the creation of IBL environments?

Or maybe you should at least suggest additional IBL environments that Autodesk could create if you trust them to know what you want..

Just a FYI.. Here is supposedly an unsupported process to create your own in Inventor..

yeah...it's doable...

But as you can see it's a big workaround and not so easy for a common users.

So, the request remains 🙂

This idea has been implemented within Autodesk Inventor 2024. Please review the Inventor 2024 What's New article here, for more information regarding how you can define custom hdr and exr images with image based lighting styles. Special thanks to everyone who cast a vote for it.
