Old Fashon Layers

Old Fashon Layers

I know in the world of solid modeling Layering has become a little obsolete.  But to comply with the national CAD standards lines in linework still need to be put on certain layers. This is never my choice it's always the client's and usually its a government agency requiring it.

It would be nice if you could assign a Layer to a part or Assembly and then have it show up in the drawing as that layer with all of the color and lineweights that are associated with that layer.

Currently I have to dig into the tree to find the part then select the edges and apply the layer.  This takes a long time and I have to do it to every view. This also turns all hidden lines to what ever line type that layer is assigned.

This seams simple to me. Assign a part to a layer (say M-MACH-BRNG) and when you show hidden lines add another layer (M-MACH-BRNG-HIDDEN).

Maybe one day layers will not be nessary but when dealing with the US government it will takes a long time to change.
