I use numerous different file templates for numerous different clients, plus I also have my own company templates.
So I have numerous project files I work in (one for each client), currently the only way I be assured of selecting the proper template files for Parts, Assemblies, etc for that specific client is to select the New File Icon only. If I am to select the New File pull down arrow or the Inventor Yellow Icon and New file, Inventor points to the software's default Standard.idw or Standard.ipt, etc.
Can we possibly get Inventor to change this and have these icons point to the templates tied to the specific project file templates? Or at least give us the option to set that up?
Thanks and kudos on whoever made the suggestion of adding this discussion forum!
Hello,
You can achieve this now by modifying you Project file. simply tell it to point to a different location for Templates under the Folder Options setting.
I hope this helps.

Bryan,
I attempted this and it does not work as expected.
My project file set as stated:
After a restart even, here's what shows up when I select the Inventor Yellow icon and the New:
Where's what I get using the New Icon pull down:
And lastly, here's what I get if I select the New Icon:
I want what you see listed in the last picture to be shown from any of the "New" file selections....as it should be.
Hello,
Is there an IDW file in the folder, or is it a DWG file?
Thanks,
Bryan
This has been marked as Solution Provided, but I don't think that is correct.
To clarify this a bit, the request really boils down to being able to set default file templates, rather than a default template folder.
The project path option that Bryan shows, sets the template folder path.
What Jim is asking for is to be able to specify a default *.ipt template, a default *.iam template, a default *.idw (or *.dwg) template, and a default *.ipn template, so that the quick pull down menu will use a specified file, rather than the Standard.xxx files.
Example:
Currently, we don't want Skippy the intern clicking the IPT button in the pull down and using it to create new parts, because that button pulls the Standard.ipt file that does not include the 24 custom iProperties that we've set up in our custom IPT template. We'd prefer that when Skippy clicks that button he gets our custom template.

Sorry, I pressed Post too soon.
Yes, in 2013, that is a known issue if a DWG was in the folder. Fixed in 2014 with the icon in the New File from the QAT. In 2013, the icon will be missing, but you can still select the Drawing line item in the list.
Thanks,
Bryan
Yes, I use .dwg's as opposed to .idw's but again, that's dictated by the client.
Leave it to Skippy....thanks Curtis. I should have spent the time to be as clear on this as possible and included the link to the discussion as you did.
Too many things going on here in the office for a Friday afternoon.
I'm curious why this is still marked as Solution Provided. The suggestion offered does not allow the user to set default file templates, and I don't think it has anything to do with the DWG issue that Bryan is reffering to.
Thanks Curtis, I was wondering the very same thing.
Shouldn't the originator also have the ability to decide if the issue was solved?
